Founded in 1967, the Vizag Bottling Company (VBC) is the parent company of the Konaseema Group, VBC, started by Dr. M.V.V.S. Murthi was engaged in bottling & distribution of soft drinks under the franchise of Coca Cola. VBC transited from a Private Limited to a Public Limited Company in 1986. In 1998, as part of global business strategy, the Bottling division was acquired by Coca Cola.
In 1981, the company diversified to Ferro Alloys manufacturing unit at Rudraram, 30 KMS from Hyderabad. In order to reflect the diversified business activities of Vizag Bottling Company Ltd the name was rechristened to VBC Industries Ltd in 1987. In 1990, the company further diversified to chemical business by setting up a plant at Srikakulam a backward district of A.P. to manufacture Ammonium Nitrate Prills, primarily for the mining industry, with technical assistance from Norsk Hydro, Norway and UHDE GmBH, Germany.
